Chairman of National Assembly Standing Committee on textile industry Khawaja Ghulam Rasool Koraja recently disclosed that Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain has assured the Committee of declaring textile exports as zero-rated from July 1.
Making this disclosure at a special function, hosted by Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) on Saturday, Rasool Koraja pointed out that in the absence of textile minister, the textile sector is facing a lot of problems, for which the standing committee must play a proactive role in order to ensure the growth of this sector, which is in fact a major foreign exchange-earning and job creating segment of Pakistan’s economy.
Due to the unified efforts of all the stakeholders, the power crisis has been sorted out to a large extent and the industry is getting its required electricity and gas for the past several months. On the 15 per cent regulatory duty on yarn imports, the Committee has sought its immediate withdrawal, he said, adding that he, along with the other members of the Committee, will raise this issue in the next session of the Assembly, which is expected to start from May 9.
