
Textile exports from Pakistan has once again reported an increase during July 2017 to March 2018 period.
During the period under review, the textile hub noted a 7.77 per cent surge in exports to US $ 9.99 billion as against US $ 9.27 billion in the same period a year ago, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Raw cotton exports from the country increased by 35.76 per cent to US $ 55.82 million in the period under review as compared to US $ 41.12 million in the same period last year.
Knitwear segment also reported a 14.12 per cent rise in exports to US $ 1.98 billion in the reporting months as compared to US $ 1.7 billion in the same period last year. Exports of yarn excluding cotton yarn, also noted a 31.34 per cent increase in exports from US $ 17.75 million in the corresponding period last year to US $ 23.32 million during the current period.
Additionally, bed wear, readymade garments marked an increase of 4.99 and 12.56 per cent, respectively, to US $ 1.67 billion and US $ 1.9 billion. A 1.18 per cent increase in towels’ export to US $ 598.245 million from US $ 591.28 million was also reported.
A whopping 70.39 per cent increase in the exports of art, silk and synthetic textile fetched US $ 227.771 million as against US $ 133.673 million last year.
A 7 per cent increase in made-up articles (apart from towels and bed wear) to US $ 514 million from US $ 480.4 million was reported during the first three quarters of this fiscal.
Pakistan also recorded a 1.05 per cent increase in cotton cloth exports to US $ 1.63 million, up from US $ 1.61 billion in July-March 2016-17. A 4.9 per cent increase in export of cotton yarn to US $ 987.58 million was also observed.
In March 2018, Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce, anticipated continuous growth in the coming months. The rising international demand and exchange rate correction helped the country to report growth in textile and apparel exports.
