Factory workers rallied in Yangon, demanding a higher minimum wage. The workers are now demanding a daily minimum wage of 4,000 kyat (US $ 3.54) after it was set at 3,600 kyat (US $ 3.18) by the National Minimum Wage Committee last month after prolonged negotiations between the Government, employers and employees. Currently, the minimum wage is 3,000 kyat (US $ 2.65). The factory workers were unaffected by the warning given by some Chinese and Korean factory owners of shutting down if the minimum wages are increased. A span of 60 days has been given to all the parties to submit their comments, by the wage committee.
