After a year of long, often heated debates between the government, employers and labour representatives, the national minimum wage committee has disclosed a figure of US $ 3.20 as the minimum wage. Though the amount has not been officially confirmed, two months of consultation will be held before the official announcement of the proposal and before the issue goes to the parliament for a final decision. Workers’ representatives appreciated the move by the committee even though the amount is less than what they had proposed – US $ 3.6, as they believed there was an urgent need to settle this issue.
