As many states in India are witnessing chilly weather and cold waves are expected to continue, Ludhiana’s apparel manufacturers expect clearance of winterwear stock. The growing demand for winterwear products is being seen in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.
Though many apparel manufacturers in Ludhiana have recently started manufacturing semi- winterwear, but still this hub is mainly dependent on the winterwear sale and so far the season has remained slack.
Due to delayed winter, Ludhiana’s winterwear manufacturers saw lower offtake of garments in the current season and did not get repeat orders for products.
As per new agency PTI, the demand for winterwear has started perking up with retailers seeing customers buying pullovers, jackets, sweaters and inners etc.
Komal Kumar Jain, Chairman, Duke Fashions, Ludhiana believes that with the cold weather conditions in the region, customers have started showing up at retail counters to buy winter wear. The demand will further pick up in coming days.
At the same time it is also believed that because of the delayed winter, demand from other key markets like Bihar and Madhya Pradesh has still not picked up.
Industry believes that by the first week of January, it will become clear about how much impact the current cold weather conditions are going to have on the demand for winterwear.
The industry had even started offering discounts in early December to rev up sales. Otherwise discounts are offered in the last week of December or in the first week of January.
