For the first round of talks towards an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Bangladesh and Japan, a trade delegation from Japan will be in Dhaka from 19th-23rd May.
When Bangladesh gets lifted out of LDC classification in 2026, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud expressed hope that an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) would be reached to obtain financial concessions from Japan, as reported. Thanking Japan for sending the trade delegation to negotiate the proposed EPA, he expressed gratitude.
After meeting with Hasan Mahmud, Japanese Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Hosaka Yasushi expressed his optimism that they would work together to realise a “Free and Open Indo Pacific (FOIP)” and steadily grow their bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh under the “Strategic Partnership.”
Hosaka mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Japan in April last year was a cornerstone of future bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan. He expressed his gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh for hosting the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD30) Global Dialogue.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud, the Foreign Minister, met with him. Hasan conveyed his gratitude to Japan for its support in building Bangladesh’s infrastructure and his wish to strengthen bilateral ties to draw in more Japanese investment, especially in the areas of Matarbari and Chittagong.
By the time Bangladesh is upgraded from LDC status in 2026, the Foreign Minister expressed hope that an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) would be signed to obtain financial concessions from Japan.
He expressed gratitude to Japan for sending a trade delegation to Dhaka for the first round of the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations, which would take place from 19th-23rd May.
