In order to support the high quality Japanese clothes against the rising imports, the Japan Fashion Industry Council has launched a certification system called ‘J Quality’ which certifies that the product’s entire manufacturing took place in Japan, from manufacturing of textile to stitching into garments, except the production of raw materials. A total of 135 products by 18 brands made by 10 companies have been certified till now and more are expected to get certified to fight the cheap apparel imports that have been posing tough competition to the Japanese goods. Imported garments accounted for 97 per cent of the total clothes in the Japanese market.
