Developed around the concept ‘fabric to fashion’, the new textile policy by the State Government of Maharashtra suggests an investment of Rs. 80,000 crore over the next 5 years. Suggested by Ichalkaranji-based BJP MLA Suresh Halwankar, this new policy aims to bring together all the processes, from production of cotton to manufacturing of readymade garments, in one area, so that the delivery time reduces and so does the transportation expense.
Nine locations will be identified where cotton can be supplied to get the final product and these will be called textile hub, generating employment through spinning, yarn making, warping, sizing, and stitching units. It is said to be a major push for the state’s economy.
