India’s Ministry of Textiles has formed three ‘Institutional Mechanisms’ to tap full potential of the textile industry. The mechanisms have been framed considering the recommendations received during the recently concluded Textiles India 2017 trade show. The suggestions were made by persons associated with the textile business; policy makers; and academia.
The entire setup of the three Institutional Mechanisms includes Knowledge Network Management System (KNMS) on Product Diversification; Inter-Ministerial Synergy Group (IMSG) on Man-Made Fibre (MMF); and Task Force on Textiles India.
The KNMS will deliver productivity knowledge on natural fibres and their by-products’ diversification amongst farming community, academia and textile industry. Additionally, the system will extensively cover Product Diversification on silk, jute, cotton as well as wool.
Formed under the Chairmanship of Secretary (Textiles), IMSG on MMF will formulate policy interventions to propel the competitiveness level and growth of the Indian man-made fibre industry.
On the other hand, the Task Force on Textiles India has been set up to regularly follow-up the implementation of the actions taken as the outcome of Textiles India 2017. The Force will comprise representatives of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Consumer Affairs, Heavy Industry, focus states of Textiles India and industry partners.
The Institutional Mechanisms combine joint efforts to develop a synergy between the Textiles Ministry; other relevant Ministries; industry partners; and the State Governments to ensure smooth functioning of all three mechanisms and for the overall improvement of the textile industry.
It is being said that these Institutional Mechanisms will enable the textile industry to operate at its maximum potential in terms of production, employment and exports.
