India, world’s largest cotton producing country, today announced its cotton brand ‘Kasturi’. This branding initiative will fetch better value for the Indian cotton growers.
The Kasturi Cotton brand will represent Whiteness, Brightness, Softness, Purity, Luster, Uniqueness and Indianness.
Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani launched the brand in a webinar jointly organised by Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) and Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).
As far as quality parameters for long staple Indian cotton are concerned, it should have staple length of 30mm+, RD value of 78+, strength of 29g/tex or more and uniformity index of 85 per cent.
Similarly, trash should have less than 1.7 per cent and moisture content 8 per cent or below.
Addressing the webinar, the Textile Minister said that 51 per cent production of organic cotton is led by India. This step will further enhance the opportunities for cotton growers.
Textile Secretary Ravi Capoor urged the textile industry to work together with CCI.
