A workshop composed of two events- ‘Strategic Planning Programme for Women Trade Union Leaders in the RMG Sector’ and ‘Enhancing Workers’ Participation in Occupational Safety and Health Committees took place in Dhaka. It was organized by ‘Improving Working Conditions in the Ready Made Garment Sector’ (RMGP) – a Government of Bangladesh and ILO initiative. The first event highlighted women’s rights and better working conditions, freedom of association, collective bargaining and labour administration. “The workforce being predominantly female, it is crucial that women are trained to take leadership roles in order to make their voices heard when it comes to improving working conditions,” averred Srinivas B Reddy, Country Director, ILO Bangladesh. The second event was centered on identification of hazards at the workplace and understanding standards and guidelines related to safety issues, health policies and systems.
