The leather industry in Bangladesh has long been spoken about as the next best after the readymade garments in terms of export potential. However, due to a host of reasons, the sector has not been able to reach its true potentials, say many industry insiders.
However, the Government is now working relentlessly for the overall development of the leather industry.
According to media reports, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun had said this recently while virtually addressing an exchange of greetings after Eid-ul-Azha, with officials of the Ministry of Industries and its affiliated agencies, as the chief guest.
The observations of the Industries Minister gain even more significance in view of some recent reports, which maintained many rawhide traders were unable to get desired prices for the hides this Eid.
Our Government is working relentlessly for the overall development of this sector, reportedly, underlined the Industries Minister even as he added that due to the pre-preparation and overall supervision of the Ministry of Industries and other concerned ministries and departments/ agencies, there’s no mismanagement pertaining to rawhides of sacrificial animal this time.
Further, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun also underlined that there was adequate supply of salt to preserve the rawhides, while adding rawhides were preserved with salt in a timely and proper manner and no rawhide was damaged.
