
Paying respect to the victims of the Rana Plaza building collapse on the third anniversary of the incident, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Siddiqur Rahman, along with other industry leaders, reportedly urged for swift completion of trials in the three cases filed over the 2013 building collapse.

“It has been three years. Delay in justice does not help. We demand swift completion of trials,” said Siddiqur Rahman.
A day after the incident, police reportedly initiated two cases, one for murder and the other for violating the building code, while a year after the collapse, the Anti Corruption Commission started another case over violation of authorised plans in the construction of the building.
It may be mentioned here that it was on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, that the eight-storey commercial building, Rana Plaza in Savar Upazila of Dhaka, collapsed, killing around 1,130 and injuring 2,500 more. The building contained clothing factories, a bank, several apartments, besides several shops.

Many human rights organisations, workers’ organisations, survivors and relatives of the victims also reportedly marked the 3rd anniversary of the incident, with various programmes, including discussion, rally and human chain commemorating the tragedy. They also placed wreaths at the memorial in front of the Rana Plaza site.
