Bangladesh garment exporters have, reportedly, sought a new stimulus package while also calling for 14 to 15 years’ time for payment of instalments of their long-term loans.
As per media reports, the apparel makers came up with the demands during a special meeting, organised by the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) in capital Dhaka on 2 March (Tuesday).
The garment makers demanded the new stimulus package for the upcoming Eid festivals, to help continue their business even as business leaders attending the said meeting, reportedly, underlined that their products remained stockpiled as the buyers could not import goods for the last few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tuesday’s meeting was, reportedly, presided over by BKMEA President AKM Salim Osman, in which Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, lawmaker as well as former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) was present as the chief guest while
President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) Mohammad Ali Khokon and S M Mannan Kochi, BGMEA Vice-President, amongst others, participated in the meeting.
