Since Monday, the city’s textile industry has lost more than Rs. 100 crore every day as a result of flooding in the Kadodara road area. At least 20 textile marketplaces have experienced commercial disruptions as a result of the flooding, and 200 transport companies have completely stopped operating.
Companies worry that it will take a few more days for the floodwaters to entirely drain and for things to get back to normal in the market. Additionally, thousands of daily wage workers have experienced financial loss.
The Saroli textile markets now contain water. Although there was no direct water intrusion in many of the marketplaces, the roadways that connected them are now underwater. Textile dealers assert that the precise amount of items lost has not yet been determined. The shops and warehouses where the products were kept will evaluate the damage to property and merchandise after the flood recedes.
“Due to waterlogging, our entire market is closed, and we are suffering huge losses. Goods in many shops are under water. Almost every year we face flooding, but there is no solution to the problem,” said Kapil Arora, president of DMD Market.
Because of floods on the connecting roads or in residential neighbourhoods, workers have been unable to go to the markets. The lack of transportation is partly a result of flooded roadways.
About 200 of the 250 transporters of textile goods work out of Saroli and Kadodara Road. The trucks were unable to load products at the warehouses and markets because of the floods. According to a conservative estimate, the city’s transporters of textile items lose more than Rs. 15 lakh in revenue per day.
