The eight-person Turkish team that was tasked with looking into the Dhaka airport fire has finished their investigation and will give their results in a few days.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin today stated that the team is expected to submit its report within two to three days. According to him, the government is preparing its own report which will be soon published and this will be treated as the primary one.
On 18th October at the import cargo complex of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, a huge fire broke out which was brought under control by 37 firefighting units, with help from army, air force and navy.
The blaze destroyed imported goods, particularly those meant for the apparel and pharmaceutical industries.
Leading clothing producers project losses of at least US $ 1 billion. They warned that output in the pharmaceutical and ready-to-wear industries could be delayed by up to two months due to the fire’s disruption of the raw material supply.
Authorities announced shortly after the incident that they had recruited experts from China, Turkey, Australia and the UK to assist with the inquiry.
The trade adviser told reporters at the Riya Gope Women’s Sports Complex in the capital’s Dhanmondi neighborhood that items are currently being released from the airport cargo complex through alternate arrangements and that regular operations should soon resume.
The airport fire came after two significant manufacturing fires earlier this month in the port cities of Chattogram and Dhaka. At least sixteen persons were killed in the Dhaka factory fire.
