Bangladesh’s apparel exports to the European countries have increased by 12.43 per cent in the first three months of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period of previous year and this despite various global crises.
According to reports in the period between July and August, Bangladesh exported apparel worth US $ 4.94 billion to the European Union (EU) countries even if entrepreneurs involved in the sector apprehend this uptrend in exports to European nations will be difficult to maintain in the future.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA Director Mohiuddin Rubel reportedly said, exports to Germany, the largest export market in the EU, grew only by 1.34 per cent to US $ 1.52 billion during the mentioned time even if exports to Spain and France showed 21.35 percent and 36.72 percent growth respectively, while on the other hand, exports to Poland declined by 24.49 percent compared to the July-September of 2021-22.
Mohiuddin Rubel further reportedly said, “Apparel exports to the USA stood at US $ 2.01 billion in the first three months of FY 2022-23 with 5.13 percent Y-o-Y growth, indicating a clear deceleration in growth but at the same time exports to the UK and Canada reached US $ 1.19 billion and US $ 334.65 million, with 15.11 percent and 17.40 percent growth respectively.”
