Due to the slow demand of the weaving industry, the prices of cotton yarn have become steady in South India. Among the reasons for this development is the budget presented for 2023-24. Traders anticipate the prices and purchasing to remain steady.
Prices of cotton yarn were stable in Mumbai, however, the higher purchasing of fabric has improved the sentiments of the market.
In Mumbai, 60 per cent of the carded cotton was of warp and weft variety and were traded at Rs. 1540 – 1570 and Rs.1440-1490 respectively.
60 combed warp was priced at Rs. 345-350 per kg with the prices going as high as Rs. 1470-1490 per 4.5 kg. Apart from these prices, the prices for count carded cotton yarn (warp) was sold from Rs. 275-280 per kg to Rs. 262-268 per kg.
Yarn prices also remained steady in Tirupur with demand remaining weak. According to the traders, the prices of cotton yarn remained steady due to no improvement in buying since buyers from the weaving segment were not interested in making bigger deals. The cotton yarn was traded at Rs.280-285 per kg with extra GST added to it. Cotton yarn per 30 count was priced at Rs.255-260 per kg, whereas the 34 count carded was priced at Rs.265-270 per kg.
In Gujarat, cotton continues to be sold at the previous prices of Rs. 61,800-62,400 per candy of 356 kg candy.
