
In what is seen as a development that will boost Chittagong Port’s container handling capacity and reduce transport costs as well as the turnaround time, the Bangladesh’s largest sea port is all set to accommodate large container vessels with a draught of 10 metres and length of 200 metres from early this year.
This is as per reports, which cited the concerned port authorities in this regard.
Speaking to the media, Secretary to the Chittagong Port Authority, Omar Faruq reportedly underlined the expansion in berthing capacity will boost the port’s container handling capacity and reduce transport costs and the turnaround time, which is the time required for loading and unloading of goods.
It may be mentioned here Chittagong Port in the principal seaport of Bangladesh and responsible for handling bulk of import and exports.
