Cambodia’s garment export industry has been performing positive these months, and the same can be seen in the latest data released by the country’s General Department of Customs and Excise.
According to data, Cambodia shipped US $ 3.16 billion worth of garments and textiles in January-March ’22 period, noting 24.80 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
It’s worth noting here that data from the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC) revealed that exports of textile-related products amounted to US $ 11.39 billion in 2021, a US $1.50 billion or 15.20 per cent jump from 2020.
Of total shipment, garments accounted for US $ 8.02 billion, footwear made up US $1.39 billion, travel goods were to the tune of US $ 1.49 billion and other categories clocked in at over US $ 0.49 billion in 2021.
2022 is being seen as a revival period for Cambodia as the Ministry of Economy and Finance launched the Cambodia Garment, Footwear and Bags Sector Development Strategy 2022-2027 this year in March to strengthen and support the sector in “the new context.”
