The textile millers’ body in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), has called upon the central bank of the country to extend the time of Usance Paid At Sight (UPAS) LC or deferred LC payment from existing 180 to 360 days.
Media reports claimed this adding BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon, along with other board members, made this request to the newly-appointed Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder during a recent courtesy meeting.
The mill owners’ body also, reportedly, requested the central bank Governor to increase the Export Development Fund (EDF) from US $ 25 million as it is not enough to import raw materials for textile sector even as the BTMA team underlined due to the current dollar crisis, it has become difficult to pay for industrial raw materials under UPAS or deferred LC, for which the time limit is 180 days.
