
Underlining that the readymade garment industry has made immense contributions towards rebuilding a once war-ravaged country (Bangladesh), which is now a ‘development surprise’ to many in the globe thanks to its impressive performance in socio-economic development over the last 50 years, the President of the apex garment makers’ body of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said the prestigious position that the industry has attained today is built upon the years of hard work and dedication of both the workers and the entrepreneurs.
According to media reports, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan maintained this while addressing a programme organised by the Bangladesh Textile & Garment Workers League (BTGWL) recently.
Faruque, in his address, further, reportedly, said the apparel industry of Bangladesh has made significant progress in safety and sustainability, especially workers’ well-being and industrial relations while adding starting from the eliminating child labour in mid-nineties, and the emerging compliances issues including ensuring the minimum wage, overtime, timely payment of wages, hygiene at workplace, the industry has responded well.
