Faruque Hassan, the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) underscored the crucial role of the media in reshaping the global perception of Bangladesh’s garment industry in a press release.
The statement followed his meeting with Farida Yasmin, President of the National Press Club in Dhaka.
Expressing gratitude to the media for its significant contributions to the apparel sector in Bangladesh, President Faruque Hassan acknowledged the role of the media in promoting a positive image both locally and internationally.
He recognised the media’s influence in dispelling myths and showcasing the industry’s achievements and positive stories to the world.
During the meeting, Faruque Hassan highlighted the remarkable progress made by the garment industry in crucial areas such as workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and workers’ rights and well-being.
He proudly noted that Bangladesh had earned global accolades, positioning itself as one of the safest and greenest apparel-sourcing destinations worldwide.
Despite the transformative socio-economic impact of the industry on Bangladesh, Faruque Hassan expressed concern that many success stories often went untold, and the industry was sometimes portrayed negatively with biased information.
He called for the cooperation and support of the media in dispelling such misconceptions, urging journalists to highlight the industry’s achievements and its potential for further positive impact.
Emphasising the need for presenting a more accurate and comprehensive picture of the garment sector in Bangladesh, Faruque Hassan extended an invitation to Farida Yasmin and National Press Club members to tour BGMEA even as he encouraged exploration of BGMEA’s initiatives in research and development, circularity, sustainability, market promotion, and design development, contributing to the advancement of the RMG industry.
