
With the last date of withdrawal of nominations for the upcoming biennial election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) getting over on 4 March, panels of apparel makers – the Forum and the Sammilita Parishad – have finalised the list of their candidates.
Media reports maintained this adding that each panel confirmed the list of their 35 members even as 28 fresh candidates are in fray this time around with both the panels, reportedly, prioritising young members.
Reports further underlined the Sammilita Parishad picked up 17 new faces for its panel including State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid’s brother Enthekhabul Hamid, former BGMEA president Siddiqur Rahman’s son Imranur Rahman and Kutubuddin Ahmed’s (former BGMEA president) son Tanvir Ahmed even as Forum nominated, reportedly, 11 young business leaders — of them, three are from Chittagong and eight from Dhaka — including former BGMEA president Chowdhury Anowarul Alam’s son Shah Rayeed Chowdhury and late Mayor Anisul Huq’s son Navidul Huq.
The Sammilita Parishad further, reportedly, chose two BGMEA former presidents Abdus Salam Murshedy’s daughter Shehrin Salam Oishee and AH Aslam Sunny’s wife Neela Hosna Ara, while Forum also picked up a new female contestant in Rana Laila Hafiz, Director of Pubali Bank.
It may be mentioned here that Managing Director of Giant Group and former Vice-President of BGMEA Faruque Hassan will lead Sammilita Parishad while Chairman of Hannan Group ABM Samsuddin will lead the Forum in the next biennial election, scheduled to be held on 4 April.
