Underlining nagging traffic jam caused by the ongoing construction work of the project on the Dhaka-Gazipur highway was adversely impacting the garment units as well as manufacturing units of other sectors that are located in the Gazipur area by disrupting transportation of raw materials to and finished goods from factories, the BGMEA has called upon the Government to speed up construction work of the Dhaka-Gazipur highway.
Media reports maintained this adding BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has requested to speed up the implementation of the bus rapid transit project and complete it in the quickest possible time to ease traffic congestion.
The request was, reportedly, made when a BGMEA delegation called on Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam recently.
For information, Gazipur is a major industrial hub and has large number of apparel factories that cater to global clientele.
