Close on the heels of Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi maintaining that the Government is making efforts to ensure that apparel products from the country could make their way to Brazil and Russia soon, a high-power trade delegation comprising senior Government officials and business leaders is reportedly going to visit Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay next month to tap the export potentials in the South American region.
“Brazil is a very big market in South America and despite having potentials, our exporters have been facing some barriers including high tariff in the market. From the Government side, we are trying to avail duty-free market access of our readymade garment products in the market,” stated the Commerce Minister interacting with pressmen at his office in Dhaka recently.
As per Munshi, the trade delegation would visit the South American trade block with the aim of gaining more market share for Bangladeshi apparel products in Brazil.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau, Shafiqul Islam, said that a high-power delegation led by the Commerce Minister would go to Brazil on 18 August.
“During the visit, we will propose the Mercosur states sign a memorandum of understanding for free-trade agreement,” Shafiqul said, adding that at the same time the business delegation would hold meetings with the businesses of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay to explore the export potentials.
