Bangladesh has initiated a slew of measures to boost the country’s readymade garment exports.
Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed underlined this while replying to a starred question placed by a lawmaker at the Parliament on Sunday.
As part of the initiative and to explore the new potential markets for the readymade garment items, the Government has been sending high-profile delegations comprising Government officials and business personnel to different developed and developing countries including Brazil, Mexico, Chile, South Africa and Russia, Ahmed said.
In addition to this, measures have also been taken to send marketing missions abroad, organise single country, national and international RMG fairs to expand the RMG market, the Commerce Minister added.
In his 30 minute-long speech, Ahmed also informed that the incumbent Government of Bangladesh is going to set up commercial wings at the Bangladeshi missions abroad to intensely review and analyze regional as well as global markets.
The move will further help the apparel exporters by engaging with new buyers.
“A proposal has been sent to the Public Administration Ministry for opening commercial wings in Istanbul, Kunming and South Africa,” maintained Ahmed.
As per the Commerce Minister, a new commercial wing has already been opened at Bangladesh mission in Jeddah, the second largest city of Saudi Arabia, to review the potentiality of Saudi market for Bangladeshi apparel items.
The readymade garment sector is the highest export earning sector of the Bangladesh accounting for 82 per cent of the total export earnings.
