The move by the Bangladesh Government to allow US cotton to arrive in the country’s port sans fumigation, which is expected to save the cotton importers in Bangladesh a significant amount of time as well as money, has been welcomed by the USA.
This is as per media reports, which added this move by Bangladesh followed a visit by a technical delegation from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Agriculture to the USA in November 2022, to verify that the US cotton production and pest management strategies, followed by cotton processing techniques, removed any risk of boll weevil in the cotton from the USA.
It may be mentioned here fumigation is a process followed to kill termites, pests or any other harmful living organisms so as to prevent the transfer of exotic organisms and is mostly done after the completion of stuffing of cargo and closing the door of a container.
