According to the data released by Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau, apparel exports from the country have risen by 4.08 percent to US $ 25.5 billion in fiscal 2014-15. While knitwear exports grew by 3.13 per cent year-on-year to US $ 12.42 billion, woven shipments grew 5 per cent to $13.06 billion in the immediate-past fiscal year. The 5.24 per cent deficit from the expected annual target of US $ 26.9 billion was mainly attributed to the political crisis in the year’s first quarter and devaluation of major currencies. The orders seemed to pick pace in June – the last month of the fiscal year, fetching US $ 3.04 billion, which is an increase of 7 per cent from the previous month and an 8.68 per cent growth from the previous year.
