
The first 21 days of the last month of 2022 did not augur too well for the Bangladesh apparel industry after the country’s readymade garment export in the first three weeks of 2021 registered a 2.15% year-on-year negative growth.
This is as per reports which cited the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in this direction, as per which the apparel sector raked in US $ 2.49 billion in the said period compared to that of US $ 2.54 billion in the same period of the last fiscal year.
Reports further added out of the 21 days in December, the sector witnessed a positive growth for eight days and a negative growth for 13 days even as they further underlined the apex garment makers’ body had come up with the estimation based on the data from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) even if the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) is yet to make official announcement in this regard.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim reportedly held slowdown of apparel exports was on the expected lines this year as most factories have been receiving less work orders compared to the previous years even as he also expressed apprehensions this might continue till April-May next year.
