The Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Bangladesh has already sowed the seeds of deepening trade ties. Matlub Ahmad, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Atiqul Islam, chief of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss plans of setting up a 1,000-store retail chain in India to sell apparel produced by the Bangladeshi apparel manufacturing industry. Media reports suggest that the project is set to be valued at US $ 25 million and will grow to a US $ 1 billion retail chain in five years.
