
To cope with the mounting natural gas demand as Bangladesh’s domestic natural gas production is on wane, Bangladesh is now planning to import around 18 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from the spot market during the July-December period, which is 50 per cent higher than the January-June import.
Media reports maintained this adding the state-run Petrobangla will be importing the augmented quantity of expensive fuel.
It may be mentioned here Bangladesh’s overall natural gas output is currently around 3,095 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), of which 760 mmcfd is re-gasified imported LNG, against the overall demand of around 4,100 mmcfd even if recently production in many spinning and weaving facilities in several manufacturing hubs of Bangladesh took a massive hit on account of scarcity of gas and falling pressure.
