In an effort to boost trade with the north-eastern states of India, Bangladesh Government is planning to open the Khagrachhari-based Ramgarh land port by next year.
Media reports maintained this citing the officials of the Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) in this regard.
Speaking to media, BLPA member (Traffic), Mohammad Jahangeer Kobir, reportedly, claimed that at an estimated cost of around Taka 123 crore, work orders for developing the necessary infrastructure have already been awarded to various contractors even if the BLPA also, reportedly, aims to make at least immigration services available at the land port by the end of 2022.
Further on the opening of the said land port, Mohammad Jahangeer Kobir, reportedly, underlined Indian authorities had previously urged Bangladesh to begin immigration services even ahead of import-export activities at Ramgarh even if an inter-ministerial meeting was held to this end wherein an approval was sought from the Ministry of Home Affairs to begin immigration through the land port.
