Liberian-flagged container vessel, MV Songa Cheetah, which reached Chittagong port recently from Italy as part of direct shipping service between Bangladesh and Europe, left Chittagong Port for Italy’s Port of Ravenna recently with 952 TEUs of export-laden containers.
Media reports maintained this adding the ship had to leave Chittagong without at least 33 TEUs of export-laden containers as those could not be transported from private inland container depot (ICD) Summit Alliance Port on account of sudden work absenteeism by drivers of container-carrying prime movers of the ICD.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Rear Admiral M. Shahjahan termed the new service ‘a milestone’ in the history of Bangladesh’s container transport on sea routes as this was first container vessel carrying export cargo from Chittagong directly to any European destination.
