Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, the adviser on power, energy, and mineral resources, has conveyed Bangladesh’s strong desire to collaborate with Nepal in the power industry. According to him, Bangladesh is eager to strengthen its trading ties with the country of the Himalayas.
During a meeting with a two-person team led by Nepal’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, he gave a speech in the ministry’s conference room. The adviser welcomed the Nepalese ambassador and stated that Bangladesh has long-standing relations with Nepal. They talked about a number of topics related to enhancing the two nations’ cooperation through the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
The Nepalese diplomat stated that Nepal has had positive relations with Bangladesh from the start and hoped that they would remain so in the future.
They also talked about a Power Sale Agreement (PSA) for the import of 500MW of power from Nepal’s GMR Upper Karnali Hydropower Limited (GUKHL), the establishment of a 683MW Sunkoshi-3 hydropower facility in a joint venture with Nepal, and the purchase of 40MW of hydroelectric power from Nepal.
During the meeting, Power Division Senior Secretary Md Habibur Rahman and Ministry of Railways Secretary Abdul Baki were present.
Nonetheless, Bangladesh’s eagerness to collaborate with Nepal in the power sector is seen as a significant opportunity for both nations, particularly benefiting Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry. The joint efforts in enhancing power infrastructure and generating electricity can lead to a more stable and reliable power supply, which is crucial for the RMG sector, known to be one of the largest contributors to Bangladesh’s economy.
