During a seminar organised by the Economic Reporters’ Forum in the capital, Dhaka, business leaders anticipated that any potential trade restrictions on Bangladesh, as mentioned in the recent USA Presidential Memorandum, might be driven by political considerations rather than concerns related to labour rights violations.
The seminar aimed to address concerns about these potential trade restrictions, with the speakers expressing a lack of panic over the matter.
Mohammad Hatem, the executive president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, reassured that there was no fear regarding the trade restrictions.
He emphasised that the country’s garment sector is currently grappling with more severe crises than the potential US restrictions, citing issues such as power shortages, corruption at government offices, and various other challenges.
