Four South Asian countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal has signed an agreement to open their borders for motor vehicles, so as to facilitate movement of people, freight and vehicles among four countries. The concerned nations have set a six-month target for the completion of installation of the information technology system, infrastructure, tracking and regulatory systems. The agreement will significantly improve regional connectivity to ensure smooth cross-border movement of goods and services.
Obaidul Quader, Road Transport and Bridges Minister of Bangladesh expects the agreement would head in right direction by meeting the country’s connectivity needs with landlocked Nepal and Bhutan and eliminating hidden obstacles like non-tariff one in trade and business.
