Business leaders in Bangladesh apparel and textile sector have sought ethical and fair prices for their products sourced by brands and global buyers as Bangladesh has improved a lot in terms of product diversity, compliance and quality compared to the competing countries.
A demand to this end was made in a discussion, titled ‘Towards a US $ 100 Billion Apparel and Textile Sector: Leveraging Sustainability, Competitiveness and Investment Opportunities’, during the Bangladesh Business Summit 2023.
Media reports underlined this adding the garment makers have alleged global buyers and brands consistently pay lower than the global average to garment suppliers in Bangladesh even as speaking to the media, Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Mohammad Hatem reportedly said the buyers hardly talk about the topic of fair product prices even if garment makers in general opined sustainability and ensuring continuous improvement of the garment industry requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders.
