
Bangladesh, one of world’s biggest apparel exporters, maintained its flying colours in apparel exports during the month of November 2018, marking an impressive growth of over 18 per cent.
According to latest data released by Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau, the country’s total apparel export receipt stood at over US $ 14.1 billion in November, an 18.5 per cent growth on a year to year basis compared to July-November 2017.
The performance was 11 per cent more than the strategic export target set by the government for the given period of time. Meanwhile, for the individual month of November 2018, the apparel export came down a bit to US $ 2.85 billion, what was US $ 3.1 billion in October 2018.
Further analysis by Apparel Resources show, total knitwear receipts up until November stood at over US $ 7.3 billion, a 17 per cent growth from the July-November 2017. This segment exceeded the strategic export target by nearly 16 per cent for the given period.
For the month of November alone, knitwear products occupied just over 50 per cent of the apparel export basket – fetching over US $ 1.43 billion. In the previous month, October, knitwear fetched US $ 1.67 billion.
Moving on to the woven segment, total export receipt in this segment stood at over US $ 6.8 billion in November, what was a whopping 20 per cent growth compared to July-November 2017. This segment exceeded the strategic export target by 6.5 per cent.
For the individual month of November, woven almost matched with knitwear segment, fetching over US $ 1.43 billion. In the previous month of October, woven segment fetched US $ 1.47 billion.
