
According to the most recent data from Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the export of readymade garments from the former to the European Union for the period of July-September in fiscal year 2024 amounted to US $ 5.51 billion.
This represents an increase of 11.47 per cent when compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.
A press release by Mohiuddin Rubel, the director at BGMEA, noted that there were significant growth rates in exports to specific European countries.
Specifically, exports to Spain, France, Netherlands, and Italy exhibited growth rates of 23.26 per cent, 8.67 per cent, 18.97 per cent, and 23.22 per cent, respectively even as in contrast, the export to Germany, which is the largest export market in the EU, experienced a decline of 4.41 per cent, totalling US $ 1.45 billion for July-September in FY ’23.
Furthermore, the export of readymade garments to the United States for the first three months of FY 2023-24 reached US $ 2.07 billion, showing a growth rate of 2.77 per cent.
During the same period, exports to the UK and Canada amounted to US $ 1.45 billion and US $ 352.86 million, with growth rates of 21.35 per cent and 5.44 per cent, respectively.
In the July-September period of FY ’24, apparel exports to non-traditional markets saw a substantial increase of 24.93 per cent, rising to US $ 2.24 billion from the previous year’s US $ 1.80 billion.
