Bangladesh’s apparel exports to America continue to be better compared to other exporting destinations even if its garment exports to the single largest export destination of USA went down 17.88 per cent year on year in January-April period.
This is as per reports, which cited data from the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) of the US Department of Commerce, which has reportedly maintained Bangladesh exported goods worth US $ 3.28 billion to the US during this period last year, but this year it was US $ 2.7 billion even if America’s garment imports from all countries declined owing to the high inflation in the US.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, reportedly held even though inflation was slowing down in the US, Bangladesh’s export may continue to decline for a few more months while expressing hopes apparel export to the US to rebound from December onwards as US consumers are still spending less on clothes.
The BGMEA chair further reportedly held in the first quarter of this year (year-on-year), apparel exports to the US declined by 19 per cent in value and 30 per cent in terms of volume.
