Supreme Court has lifted a ban on the screening of a film based on the infamous 2013 Rana Plaza factory building collapse which claimed more than 1000 lives. A High Court order had earlier banned the release of the film for six months. But in response to an appeal by the producer of the film Shamima Akhter, a four-member panel led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, ruled against the High Court order. Akhter, in his appeal, argued that the film should be allowed to release as the country’s film censor board had approved the screening after cutting some scenes in response to court directives while, the film’s director, Nazrul Islam Khan, has argued that the real-life story of Reshma Begum depicts courage amid tragedy.
