
In a positive development that could help Bangladesh effectively deal with the power crisis that it is made to deal with currently, by importing extra electricity, the second unit of Adani power plant in India has started its commercial operation recently.
This is as per reports, which added the development has been confirmed by both the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) officials and sources from Adani Power.
Adani Power issued a statement to the Mumbai stock exchange stating that they started commercial operations at the second unit at 24:00 hrs BST after successfully completing Reliability Run Tests.
The power plant is situated in an Indian village in Jharkhand, approximately 100 km from the Bangladesh border, and has a capacity of 1,496 megawatts.
A dedicated transmission line has been established to bring the electricity from the power plant to Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, PDB officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, have reportedly confirmed the initiation of cross-border transmission.
It is expected that Bangladesh will be able to import electricity from the power plant based on its needs.
The first unit of the power plant, with a capacity of 748MW, began commercial operations on 7th April.
