India has launched the India–US Trade Facilitation Portal as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen commercial ties and advance bilateral trade towards the ambitious target of US $500 billion.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri inaugurated the portal during a virtual event on Wednesday, as part of his three-day visit to the United States. The launch was attended by India’s Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra, along with senior officials and trade representatives from both countries.
According to Misri, the portal is intended to act as a bridge to ensure continuity in existing supply chains while also enabling the development of new commercial linkages. He noted that bilateral trade between India and the United States is steadily progressing towards the US $500 billion mark, a target jointly set by both nations.
Misri’s visit includes high-level meetings with senior US officials to review progress in trade and defence cooperation, as well as to discuss global developments, including the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to stabilise relations following a period of strain.
He further observed that while several business-to-business platforms already exist, a dedicated India–US trade portal would help unlock the full potential of the bilateral economic partnership by providing a more focused and integrated interface for businesses.
Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal called on exporters and businesses in both countries to actively utilise the platform to enhance trade engagement. In a video message delivered at the launch, he urged industry bodies, export promotion councils and chambers of commerce across India and the United States to integrate the portal into their operations and contribute to its development as a key driver of bilateral trade.
Goyal also described the portal as a gateway for Indian services exporters seeking access to the US market, adding that it would create expanded opportunities across multiple sectors.
