The devastating fire incident at a container yard in Chittagong last month has brought back the focus on Bangladesh’s Private Inland Container Depot (ICD) Policy.
Media reports maintained this adding the existing policy was formulated by Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR)after discussions with stakeholders, in order to facilitate ICD operations and expand Bangladesh’s foreign trade.
“Since the policy has been enacted recently, which sections will be amended depends on the report of the committee,” reportedly, maintained the Second Secretary (Customs Export and Bond) of NBR Md Moshiur Rahman Mondol even if an eight-member committee comprising representatives of the Chittagong Port, customs authorities, ICD owners, explosives department, shipping agents and trade bodies has recently been formed to evaluate the existing policy and suggest recommendations arising out of the evaluation.
