Leading global clothing retailer Primark in association with Rajesh Bheda Consultancy (RBC) celebrated the success of the Sudokkho factory based training programme recently.
An experience-sharing and felicitation programme was held related to the same in capital city Dhaka.
Sudokkho is a skills training and employment programme.
Under the initial project supported by UK and Swiss Government from 2015-2020, more than 55,000 workers were trained in 114 Bangladesh garment factories through 932 trainers trained by the RBC.
Speaking at the experience sharing and felicitation programme being held at Lake Castle Hotel, Head of Social Impact, Ethical Trade, Primark, Lindsey Block maintained, “Skills development for career progression of workers, especially women, is an important priority for us under the People Pillar of our ‘Primark Cares’ initiative. Sudokkho factory-based training implemented by RBC is one of our flagship projects. We are proud of it and are committed to take it forward. With this initiative, we would also like to see more women reach supervisory positions in the Bangladesh apparel industry.’’
The Managing Director of RBC, Dr. Rajesh Bheda, on his part while dwelling on the journey of the Sudokkho project, opined that a paradigm shift in skills development in garment industry has been achieved in Bangladesh apparel sector in terms of reduction in training duration by almost 50 per cent and higher trainee performance even as he thanked the Primark management for sponsoring the further strengthened Sudokkho factory-based training project from 2021 onwards with focused commitment to women’s empowerment.
He also shared a case study of a factory that upskilled the existing workers, using the trainers trained under the project, resulting in 51 per cent improvement in the line productivity.
