Fashion District’s 2024 Manufacturing Futures Innovation Challenge winner is Fibe, a start-up that makes textile fibre from leftover potato harvests.
As a result of the award, Fibe will get £15,000 to help with business expansion and innovation as it strives to raise the quality of its reasonably priced fibres on par with that of conventional materials.
In a release, Ella Gould, head of sustainability and innovation at Selfridges and one of the five expert judges on the Manufacturing Futures panel, said, “I feel so energised and hopeful after seeing such a broad spectrum of pitches solving problems across fashion’s entire value chain.”
Idan Gal-Shohet, a co-founder of Fibe, stated that the money would be utilised to grow the company in order to harvest a wider range of crops and “improve conditions for farmers worldwide.”
The competition’s runners-up, Sequinova, a company that makes biodegradable sequins, and Fab Materials, a company that turns difficult-to-recycle materials into composites, will each get 5,000 pounds for their businesses.
