The festival of Eid-ul-Azha scheduled to be held on 31 July or 1 August, the Government has called upon all industrial units including those into apparel manufacturing to clear workers’ salary of the month and festival bonus by 25 July.
State Minister for Labour and Employment, Begum Monnujan Sufian, maintained this after meeting with leaders of the country’s highest body of labour union, the Sramik Karmachari Oikyo Parishad (SKOP), in capital Dhaka.
Speaking to the media, the President of Sramik Karmachari Oikyo Parishad, Fazlul Hoque Montu, underlined the deadline (25 July) for disbursing workers’ salary and bonus is for both formal and informal sectors, including garments and textile.
The call was made considering that workers mostly travel to their villages on this occasion, and if salary and bonus are paid in advance, it would help them to reach their villages on time and celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with the near and dear ones.
The Minister and the labour leaders also called upon the factory owners not to terminate any worker and pay them the arrears.
