The UN Climate Change’s Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action has released two reports designed to assist the fashion sector in comprehending strategies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions across the entire spectrum of raw material activities.
These studies are praised by Lindita Xhaferi-Salihu, Sector Engagement Lead at UN Climate Change, as essential resources for comprehending impact information related to the fashion and clothing industry.
The new reports go deeper than the 2021 paper Identifying Low Carbon Sources of Cotton and Polyester, focusing on the crucial raw material fields of animal fibres and man-made cellulosics, which are significant in the context of the global fashion scene.
These papers, which serve as authoritative archives, provide thorough insights into the current greenhouse gas effect data across several raw material categories while painstakingly outlining gaps and issues.
The reports provide Fashion Charter members the power to come up with plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by the year 2050.
The Raw Material Working Group of the Charter’s Textile Charter enlisted Textile Exchange to lead the creation of these gap analysis reports. Notable signatories like Lenzing, Canopy, VF Corporation, Reformation, Primark, Schneider Group, Fabrikology, New Enzymes, Sateri, and others made significant contributions.
