As concern for sustainability is growing, solar energy is widely being used in many Indian textile and apparel manufacturing units.
Daks India Industries, a leading sustainable and eco-friendly textile company, has added another feather in its cap as one of its factories is running 90 per cent on solar energy.
Almost Rs. 1 crore has been invested and solar energy capacity is 250 kW. The factory spread in 5,000 sq. metre area has solar power plant in 12,000 sq. feet space.
The company has further aggressive plans in the same direction and will have similar use of the solar energy in its five other units and head office also. The entire process is expected to complete in almost 18 months.
It will have electric buses and trucks for the transportation of its workers and logistic service. These vehicles will also be charged by solar energy. Notably, the plan is to have 12-15 buses.

This green energy initiative is also creating financial benefits for the company. So far, the amount invested in this project is expected to reach the break-even point in 4 years.
Anil Khurana, CEO of the company, told Apparel Resources, “Sustainability needs to be implemented in circularity, and so we are trying to ensure maximum use of green energy. We are doing it for our satisfaction towards nature.”
It is pertinent to mention here that companies can’t sell solar power to the grid; so whatever energy they produce, they have to use it themselves.
Almost three-decade-old, Daks India is known for its home textile products, variety of bags and backpacks. It also uses a wide range of sustainable materials in its products.
